71 - 75 VEGA Transmission adapter Installation

Chevrolet  SB engines with TH350, 700R4, TH400, 200R4, 4 speed transmissions

Parts included;

Right & left frame extensions.

Transmission cross member

2  - 3/8 x 16 x 3" bolts, washers, lock washers and nuts. (Cross member)

2  - 3/8 x 16 x 3" bolts, washers, lock washers. (Extension to chassis)

2  - 7/16 x 14 x 1 1/4" bolts, washers, serrated flange nuts and large backup plates. (frame extensions to body)

Parts needed;

Transmission cushion. # 2268

Transmission bolt kit.  TH 350, TH400, 4spd # 10540,  700R4 #10545

Installation procedure.

1.

Remove stock cross member.

2.

Install frame extensions. Use 2 - 3/8" x 16 x 3" bolt with flat and lock washer thru original transmission crossmember attachment point. See Fig. A

3.

Install transmission cross member. Use 2 - 3/8" x 16 x 3" bolts, washers, lock washers & nuts. Do not tighten. Note: cross member is marked for left side.

4.

Measure distance between inside of frame extensions at transmission cross member.

Use that dimension to set the distance at the rear of frame extensions.

5.

Measure from outside body seams at front and rear of frame extensions.

6.

Square frame extensions, drill 7/16" hole thru rear of frame extension in floor board.

7.

Install rear of frame extensions with backup plate on top of floor. Use 7/16" bolts, flat washers and serrated flange nuts.

8.

Push squared frame extensions tight against floor, tighten front bolts then rear bolts, except cross member.

9.

Remove cross member for transmission installation

10.

Check for floor pan to transmission clearance. Lift transmission, check for minimum of 1/4" clearance between cushion and cross member.

11.

The center line of the transmission should be approx 1/2" to the pasenger side.
